GHolmes's blog

Meet our Junior Road Safety Officers whom I'm sure many of you have already encountered at the end of the school day. They will be checking that visitors are closing the gate, any children (and adults) will be dismounting bikes and scooters when on the school grounds and generally ensuring our pupils are kept safe. I'm sure you'll agree that they're doing a great job and are rightly proud of the responsibility that comes with the role.

Natural Dyes

The children have investigated how Vikings would have used natural dyes to colour their cloth. After collecting ingredients from the orchard, the children explored which dyes worked best before agreeing on the most successful. Groups have dyed lengths of string which will be made into jewellery to be 'sold' at our Trade Fair on Friday.

The children have loved making Viking jewellery out of clay in preparation for our Trade Fair (Golden Moment) on Friday. The class agreed that the jewellery looked more authentic unglazed but are able to leave their pieces at school for firing and glazing after half term if they wish.

Spring Newsletter

The children have received their next class newsletter today. This is because there is a suggested piece of homework that you may wish to do as a family over the half term and also because we are doing a village walk on the first day back. Children will need a warm coat and sensible footwear please.

Dance Festival

The year 3 and year 4 children had an excellent time at the Tadcaster cluster dance festival. They enjoyed performing our Jai Ho dance on the stage at Tadcaster Grammar School and made us incredibly proud. Children were mesmerized by the other performances; both from other primary schools and that of the Grammar students. The afternoon finished with all the pupils performing a dance. A huge thank you to our faithful followers for their support.

The Dig and Jorvik.

The Borrowers had a brilliant day experiencing a Viking battle tactics workshop and excavating a site as part of our new topic. The children had lots of interesting and exciting questions ready for the experts but couldn't quite believe the artefacts were real.

Traders and Raiders

We welcome the children back to school with a very exciting new topic.

Attached is the newsletter and homework. Children can choose ANY 2 pieces of homework. The first should be handed in on Friday 19th January and the second piece on Friday 2nd February.

We also welcome Mrs Wilkinson into Borrowers this term. She will be teaching alongside Ms Holmes and we hope she enjoys her time with us.

District Cross Country

A huge congratulations to our pupils who took part in the Selby District Cross Country Race today. We were incredibly proud of their achievements. A special mention goes to Oliver in Borrowers who qualified to represent the District Team in the North Yorkshire Finals in March.

The whole school enjoyed football sessions with Mr Scoreby on Friday and they absolutely loved it! These sessions will continue throughout the year and will also focus on multi-skills and team building.
