Our outstanding school
About our school
Our school is a community day school for children between the ages of four and eleven, administered by North Yorkshire County Council in the pretty village of Appleton Roebuck, just off the A64 between York and Leeds.
The school building is a combination of the original village school and more recent extensions. At the heart of the school is the hall, which regularly hosts assemblies and celebrations as well as music lessons, and the school also has a separate modern building which houses our older pupils in their own space and is used for the Out of School Facility, located across the playground adjacent to the sports field.
The school has four classes:
- Gruffalos (Reception and Year 1)
- BFGs (Year 1/2)
- Borrowers (Year 3/4)
- Hobbits (Year 5/6)
The school occupies a safe, enclosed site, which includes extensive playing fields and a hardplay facility. Other outdoor facilities include a developed nature study area with pond, a recently fitted trim trail, a covered patio area and our orchard - a quiet area with picnic tables.
We particularly cater for pupils from Appleton Roebuck and Bolton Percy, although a number of our children come from further afield. We try to keep class sizes as small as possible for a personalised learning experience, and currently have spaces in Gruffalos, Borrowers and Hobbits.
